When I first started doing makeup ‘properly’ on an every day basis I didn’t really use a highlighter as I hadn’t really come across it before, hence I was a bit skeptical about it. But now I know what it is I love it. I also feel like now in the ‘makeup society’ everybody is going crazy for highlighters. Whether it is trying to get the most pigmented highlighter or having the wacky rainbow or pizza highlighters. It is almost like it has become more appreciated as it was before.
If you are like me when I first started out with makeup and you don’t know what highlighter is then I will let you know! Highlighter is basically a really shimmery product that you apply to the areas on your face that the sun light would naturally highlighter, for example, your chin, forehead, cupids bow, nose and cheek bones. The cheek bones are the most common place to apply highlighter because it emphasizes the contour on your cheeks. Highlighter can be in a powder or cream or a stick, however I personally prefer powder highlights because they feel lighter on the skin.
I don’t actually have a lot of highlighters, simply because I am in love with the highlighters I use that I am almost too scared to venture out and try others. I have the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Iridescent Gold and there is a light pink shimmery highlighter in my Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette. I use the gold highlighter on my skin when I am more tanned, and then I use the light pink Revolution highlighter when my skin needs a little natural blush too it.
The MUA highlighter is genuinely insane! For just £3 it is SO pigmented and is very glittery. I love it so much and I haven’t found a higher end highlighter that I think is better.
The blush in the Makeup Revolution palette is slightly less pigmented than the MUA one but it is meant to be a blush rather than a highlight, however if you don’t want an ‘other the top’ makeup look and you want something natural then this is perfect because it combines both blush and highlighter.
To apply a powdered highlighter it is best to use a fan brush. They help apply the highlighter precisely and it allows you to build up your highlighter, so if you want a full coverage you can easily blend in more product.
Let me know in the comments below what highlighter you use!
