“Rudolph the red nose reindeer, had a very shiny nose..”
Who doesn’t like a melt in the mouth brownie? This year for a few friends I decided to make them a Brownie in a Jar gift. I had seen these last year in New Look but I couldn’t find them online anywhere so I decided to make it myself. If you don’t know what to get your friends or if you are on a budget then these are really good present ideas because they are so inexpensive and easy to make. Also it is nice to receive something you know has been made for you, rather than just shop bought.
What you will need:
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 95 g plain flour
- 35 g cocoa
- 75 g plain flour
- 135 g brown sugar
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g chocolate chips
- A hand full of mini marshmallows
- A one litre jar (I got mine from Asda for £1.50 each)
I added the ingredients to the jar in the order from the list above, going from top to bottom and starting with the salt and baking powder. Between adding each layer I pressed each layer down so that they don’t mix all together. I found this rather difficult and fiddly (especially with the cocoa powder) however I actually found that using the underside of a cup was the best way. Once I had put all the ingredients in the jar I started to decorate it.
To actually create the brownies the person you are giving the jar to will have to add 150g of butter and three eggs. So it is best to make a cute little festive tag. Mine said “Brownie in a Jar. Combine the contents with 150g of butter and 3 eggs. Mix well and bake at 180c (160c for fan oven) for 25-35 mins. Enjoy!”. To make the tag I cut out a tag shaped piece of brown, red and white card, the red being smaller than the brown and the white being smaller than the red, and I stuck them together. I then hole punched them and strung some wool through it and tied it to the jar. To make it look a little more festive I then went and tied some ribbon around the jar and created a nice bow.
I think these are such good presents because from what my friend said, they make really good brownies!
