A Drug Store Only Makeup Look

The other day a lovely blogger asked if I could do a blog post on makeup tips or an everyday makeup look, so I tried to combine both and an idea I had. I am lucky enough to own some high end makeup products however every single day I find my self reaching for a high street product. Even though it is made out that high end products are better because they are more expensive, high street products are becoming really high quality products and often I find are better than some more expensive products. I do adore my high end products, for example I wouldn’t be able to live without my Mac Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, however you don’t need to spend excessive amounts on makeup if you either don’t want to or don’t have the money too. I tried a whole makeup look using high street products and this is how it turned out. This is a long ol’ post so grab a hot drink, something sweet and get comfy!

Foundation: L’Oreal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation. If you have read some of my old blogs you will know I have a bit of a love hate relationship with this foundation. I bought it out on a whim not knowing what it was like or not reading any reviews on it. I had very mixed views on it to start because I thought it was patchy and too runny. However I have been starting to like it and I will choose it over any other foundation I have at the moment because it is easy to blend into your skin, making it a good foundation to use when I am in a rush. It is slightly drying on my skin but I think most foundations are to a certain extent with my skin. I also like this foundation because it actually matches my skin. I have loads of BB creams which I love the formula of but this time of year I simply can’t wear them as they are too dark for my skin tone.

Concealer: Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. Yes, I am also one of those people who love this concealer because it is just so high coverage. I did use it under my eyes which is not the best as it is really thick, however because of my skin tone I get really bad dark circles and I found this covered them best. I would use the lightest shade under my eyes as it would be really good at highlighting and then I would use the cool medium shade on any spots or blemishes. When it comes to concealer I have a mix of both liquid and stick concealers but my personal preference is liquid because they are so much easier to blend.

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. I think most people have heard about this powder, if not tried it. This was the first ever powder I got and I have gone through so many. Mine actually has smashed to pieces as I carried it in my school bag so it got battered, however I still tried to use it for this post. I prefer a matte finish to my face rather than a dewy look and for only £5 this does the job. I did move on to a Bobbi Brown Powder which I LOVE but if you want something inexpensive then I would 100% go for this one.

Bronzer: Collection Bronzer Glow Mosaic Powder. For a high street product this is way more pigmented than my Mac bronzer. I can use so little product and I get a good result. I actually have a fair few different drug store bronzers but I chose this one because I know that will get the best result with it. The only negative I have about it is that it is shimmery and I prefer more of a matte bronzer. I tend to reach for this bronzer most in the summer when I have a tan because it is more of an orange tone rather than an ash brown.

Blush: Makeup Revolution Blush Palette – Blush Queen. This is the prettiest item of makeup I own. Honestly this blush palette is stunning and has a variety of really pigmented shades, including a baby pink highlighter. On an everyday basis I use this blusher palette and I reach for the bottom left colour because it is a rosey coral shade which matches my skin the best. I never used to be blusher fan however this palette has converted me!

Highlighter: MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder – Iridescent Gold. I actually only own this highlighter. I haven’t got another highlighter for one main reason. I am so happy with this one that I don’t even feel like I need to buy another one. I apply this on my cheek bones with my fan brush and it gives such a pigmented glow. I would expect a product like this to cost £30 not £3. It comes in four different shades but I love this one. When I wear it at school I get so many compliments on it and when I tell them that it is an MUA one for only £3 they are amazed! I didn’t really know what highlighter was when I first was introduced to makeup, so if you are like me and are just starting to experiment with makeup then you should give this a go.

Eyeshadow: MUA Baked Merged Trio. I can’t actually find the exact palette any more I used because I guess it has gone out of stock but I used an MUA trio that has three different shades of pink. To be completely honest I don’t like this and I wouldn’t reach for it because I don’t find it very pigmented. I had to go over it multiple times with each shade and in the end for the photo below I topped it up with similar shade from a different palette so you could see it. However I do own other MUA eyeshadow palettes and it is the opposite as they are pigmented!

Eyeliner: Soap and Glory Super Cat Skinny Eyeliner. I recently invested in this as my Miss Sporty eyeliner had run out. I wanted a pen like eye liner because they looked so much easier to apply than a normal liquid eyeliner and it is! I can create really precise cat flicks with this. I am rubbish at eyeliner and I don’t often wear this but this has changed me because it is so simple to use. However… I have had to re-buy it because when I went away at Christmas I stupidly left the lid off it and it dried up. Other than that I love it.

Eyebrows: Freedom Brow Pomade – Ash Brown. Holy grail eyebrow product right here ladies and gentlemen. This is 100% the best dupe out there for the Anatasia Brow Pomade. It is so pigmented, lasts so long and is only a fiver. It is harder to apply than a powder because you need that extra precision but if you want that flawless ombre eyebrow then get this!

Mascara: Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara – Brown/Black. When I use this mascara I like it but it doesn’t scream to me ‘I LOVE THIS’. It is a good mascara in the sense that it gives you natural looking lashes, however I prefer voluminous lashes that are pitch black rather than brown. However Max Factor have an extensive range of mascara which I am sure to find the product that I want.

Lips: Barry M Lip Boss Lip Gloss – Its a no brainer. I have to admit for the photo I had to remove this and put some other lisptick on (Mac Velvet Teddy and Soar Lip Pencil) because I am not a lip gloss person. I don’t like lip glosses because I don’t think they are pigmented and I hate how sticky they are. They worst situation is when it is windy and you get a load of hair stuck in it. I have no clue why I chose to use this as I have a load of drug store lipsticks, and I regret not choosing one of them.

I am sorry this has been such a long blog post! I got way too carried away! I hope that to the blogger who requested this that it has helped!

Let me know below you all time favourite drug store product!

  1. Not necessarily related to your post (although thanks for the tips!) but I really like your site layout. I’m struggling with my blog seeming clunky and your is exactly the streamlined look I’m going for. Just wanted to say that I like what you have going on here – it looks great!
