A few weeks ago I bought some more lip things from Mac and I happened to pick up the Kabuki Magic Retro Liquid Lipcolour in the shade Sweet Thing. I hadn’t seen this before so I am guessing it is new, correct me if I am wrong but I loved the look of it. It is very similar to the other Retro Lipstick that Mac have brought out however this is by the makeup artist Kabuki Magic. However I am being honest and I hadn’t heard of him before I have just googled it for this post, however some of is work looks amazing.
I am a MASSIVE lover of liquid lipsticks and I couldn’t resist trying it out. I have only worn it once however I have a bit of an idea of it to review it. My first reaction of it was that it was a bigger bottle than I was expecting, however probably an average size for a liquid lipstick. I love the gold writing on it and the shape of it. It is a similar shape to the lipsticks just a bit bigger.
When I tried it out, the colour was very different than the light pink I thought it was going to be. It actually came out quite dark and more of a darker pink shade with hints of brown. I do love the colour, however I just wasn’t expecting it to be that dark after it had dried. I have tried many liquid lipsticks and I have had some which have a horrible formula and ones which I love. The formula is really creamy so sits on the lips rather nicely, and it isn’t too drying. It is very long lasting and I managed to keep it on all day without reapplying it.
The one thing I didn’t like though was the applicator. It isn’t like a normal applicator which is long and slim, it s more round. I found it really hard to apply the liquid lipstick with this as I felt it didn’t give me much accuracy, however I have read other reviews of it and they say they love it. It is rather a matter of preference I think.
There is only the option of four shades, this one a grey/brown shade, a purple shade and then a rich red shade. I am curious about the grey shade called This Modern Shade because it is mysterious and I have never seen anywhere else sell a shade like it. It costs £17.50 which I think is a little pricey but then I also think it is rather reasonable because it is Mac after all who are a higher end brand.
I would buy this again, but I would love it if they bought out a wider range of shades. I would say it is up there with some of the best quality liquid lipsticks I own.
Have you ever tried any of Kabuki Magic’s Mac range?
