I have been dying to do this blog post and I have finally gotten around to taking and editing the photos for it. I went shopping a while back now and I was on the hunt for a new powder as my Bobbi Brown one is so close to being used up, and in actual fact I should stop using it as there is virtually nothing left. I wanted to get a drugstore one because I wanted to find a really affordable one. I used to use the Rimmel one everybody raved about and don’t get me wrong I loved it, however I used it so much I started to get bored of it. Mixing all this with the fact I wanted to get a loose powder I decided to get the NYX HD Studio Finishing Powder.
I was a bit over whelmed looking at all the NYX powders because they have quite a few however I just happened to grab this one.
I have never had a loose powder before, so I didn’t really know what to expect, however I picked this up because it said it was good for photos, and being a blogger that is essential. After I picked it up I stumbled across a YouTube video, I can’t remember who’s it was, however they completely slated this product, saying it had awful flashback, and that it wasn’t very good for baking. So I decided to do a little more research and test it out for myself.
I found out that this product isn’t actually meant for baking, and because it is a translucent powder, you should use it all over your face instead. I then also tested the flashback scenario, which I am not posting the photos of because I looked awful in them, I couldn’t see a problem with the flash back.
I have tried this product out now, and I do quite like it. As I have always used compact pressed powders, I found it so weird moving to a loose one. I found it rather messy because the powder had all kind of fallen into the top pan so if I even breathed a cloud of powder would emerge. To be honest, that was my own fault because I had it upside down in my draw, and I have learnt my lesson.
I was curious to see whether it would give my face a matte complexion. I prefer my face to be matte than dewy because I like to use highlighter, so for it to be or not to be matte is a big thing. It is actually really naturally matte. That may sound odd, but I have tried some matte powders that just make you look cakey, but this one didn’t. It stopped my conceal creasing under my eyes and any powder which manages to do that is amazing because concealer under my eyes usually creases to a whole new level.
I found this powder to be really light on my skin and strangely it made my skin feel really soft. I didn’t need a lot of it to set my foundation. As it is translucent it is also suitable for any skin tones. However I have seen reviews saying that even though it is translucent, with some skin tones it can make you look like you have rubbed chalk over someones face. I would also say that it is not the longest lasting powder I have tried and I did go a bit shiny throughout the day.
I think it is really affordable, however I am a bit 50/50 on whether to buy it again because it is rather messy, especially when I am in a hurry and I just need something quick and easy.
You can find the powder here.
