Trying Charcoal Skin Care Products!

IMG_2879

If you aren’t aware I am a sucker for face products and skin care products. I have an ever growing collection of cleansers, face scrubs and face masks, and I am still trying to find something that I love. Don’t get me wrong, I have some products that I use day in and day out however I haven’t found anything that really screams ‘THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING’ to me.

I have been seeing loads of videos on Facebook about Charcoal face masks, some of which have been quite funny, and some of which can give amazing results. If you haven’t seen any then have you been living under a rock? I got an email through from Bioré and they offered to send me some face products including a Baking Soda Scrub and a Charcoal Scrub and Cleanser. Not going to lie I was pretty happy because I can finally see if charcoal products work the miracle that some people have said.

I hadn’t heard of Bioré before, however my Mum had (if that is any consolation) and I know they sell their products in Superdrug. I received these products a few weeks ago, however I have been using them so I can do a review of them. They were also, as a brand, really friendly and sent me the full products rather than sample, and nothing is better than a company with good customer service!

I made sure to try these products out after wearing a full face of makeup because that is when you face is the grubbiest and when you could really do with a good skin care session. Firstly I removed my makeup using a makeup wipe, just to get rid of the excess product and then I took the Charcoal Scrub and applied it to my face after adding some water to it. I started rubbing it in and exfoliating my face and I noticed that my face started getting tingly. My skin is quite sensitive and I struggle to even find face wipes that don’t react to my skin, however this didn’t feel like what a reaction would normally feel like. It just made my face feel really cold, like I had stuck my face in a freezer. Weird I know! However after I massaged it in and washed it off it felt fine. I then applied the cleanser and the same happened. Interestingly though it didn’t happen with the Baking Soda scrub.

Despite this weird reaction, both products did exfoliate my skin really well and not a spot of dirt was left on my skin. It also made my face feel really soft which is always a plus. I would say that despite the whole buzz about charcoal products I actually preferred the Baking Soda scrub. The charcoal products are more suited to people with oily skin, and considering I have combination to dry skin, it isn’t the best suited product for my skin. However the Baking Soda one is best for combination skin, which is a pro, and of course I don’t have that reaction with it.

These products are for acne prone skin, and they are acidic to help reduce any signs of acne. I must say that using these products have cleared up my skin. My chin got really prone to the odd nasty spots at the beginning of the year, annoying I know, and not only I have thought this but these products are rated for getting rid of or helping acne.

These products are relatively new as well so get your hands on them whilst they are still in stock!

  1. This is such a good post! I’ve been wondering about the charcoal products ever since they started becoming a thing but it’s hard to tell whether or not it’s worth spending money on!

  2. Oooh these sound lovely! Charcoal is so amazing for the skin, as well as baking soda. So fantastic for drawing out impurities and balancing the skins sebum 🙂 I used a Biore product a few years back (not sure which product) and it also made my face feel pretty chilly!!! Hahah but not in a bad way 🙂
