• Beauty Products I Think Are Pointless

FYI before I start this blog I just want to point out that the products in my flatlay above are NOT the ‘Pointless’ makeup products I just wanted a pretty and pink flatlay for this post so I used those products.
Getting on to the main point of this post… I saw this idea on the Cosmopolitan Snapchat story and I thought this is genius because there are so many items where I am just thinking to myself ‘What the actual hell is this??’. New beauty trends are coming out more and more often, some of them being actually really good and others just being completely worthless and a complete waste of money. I am always skeptical over them, especially some of the wackier ones because you never know what to think of it.
You might be drawn to try them from adverts, or YouTubers trying them or from your friends trying them however I think everyone always has their doubts about some products.
I can’t say I have tried all of these methods, however these are the beauty products which seem pointless to me and I won’t be trying or re-using them. This is just my opinion and it doesn’t mean that they are bad and you shouldn’t try them… just saying!

    1. Rainbow Highlighter

Unless you are going to a festival or to a concert, then I don’t see the appeal to wearing a rainbow highlighter everyday because lets face it, it’s not the most natural looking highlighter to wear on your cheeks. Don’t get me wrong, I love the look of it and I think it is so fun, however consider I am not a festival goer I think it would be a waste of money.

    2. Anti Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner

This is just from my personal experience, but I have found that anti dandruff shampoo and conditioner can be very drying on your scalp which can lead to you getting more dandruff! My hairdresser has said similar because some of them can be quite harsh and damaging for your scalp. You may find that your dandruff might be due to you using too much product or not washing it out well enough. Changing your shampoo and conditioner can also affect your hair condition.

    3. White Eyeliner

It can be argued that helps your eyeshadow pop if you put it on your eyelid before hand, however people also use it to line their water line to make their eyes apparently seem bigger however I don’t find that this works. I find it painful to apply eyeliner to my water line, and I don’t find it stays on very long so simply it is a waste of product.

    4. Setting Sprays

This is probably one of my more controversial options however I don’t find that setting spray works for me. I don’t see a change in the time that may makeup stays on for, and once I think I used a bit too much and it made my mascara run. I personally don’t think there is a difference between using it and not.

    5. Lip and Cheek Tints

I have tried a lip and cheek tint before and I haven’t used it since. I don’t like non-powder products, especially when they are liquid, to use on my cheeks because I don’t find that they blend as easily and I don’t like the look they give. I also find liquid lip tints dry on my lips and I prefer pigmented and bright lipsticks.

    6. Eyebrow Stencils

They move around when you try to use them, they don’t look natural and they are slippery little things! When shaping your brows, it is best to shape it according to your face shape so it looks flattering, however if you just use a stencil you might get a high arched looking brow that doesn’t suit your brow bone shape.
I will be doing a part two of this soon so keep your eye out if you have found this post relatable!
What do you find the most pointless beauty products? Let me know in the comments and you might feature in part two!

Setting spray are pointless, period. 😂 most primers out there are in the same category of pointlessness too

Totally agree! I like the urban decay all nighter for a setting spray. Two spritzes should do the trick without is running or causing any problems.

I love this post idea, and I agree with most of these, for sure. The setting spray, I almost agree with. Of all the setting sprays I’ve used, the Urban Decay ones are the only ones that work. However, that being said, I think it has a lot to do with skin type, etc. I had a problem with my makeup coming off my jaw, and cheeks and just the edges of my face, and setting spray has helped a lot with that. I think if you have oily skin type or dry skin type where makeup usually slides or falls off easily, setting spray can be helpful.

Oh right, I might try that one out then and give it a go!

I agree so much with the setting sprays! They literally do absolutely nothing, I’ve only ever used Mac Fix Plus but I just use it as a refreshing mist because I know it won’t make my makeup last any longer! Fab post doll! Xo

I would never get a setting spray from Mac as I would find it a waste! Thanks for reading!

I actually agree with some of these, especially the rainbow highlight! As pretty as they are, i would never use them and theyre completely pointless xo

    6. 18/06/2017 / 11:35 pm

I also don’t see the point in the rainbow highlights! I’m not into that metallic white streak on your face, I’m more of a ‘glow within gal’. They’re are beautiful but not on the actual skin! At least I’m not the only one ey😊🌸

Yes! They are stunning to look at but aren’t actually that practical!

    7. 23/06/2017 / 7:04 am

Totally agree with the rainbow highlighter! Idk why everyone went crazy over it! For me, dandruff shampoos work best when I alternate washes with a regular shampoo! Lovely post!

    8. 26/06/2017 / 11:44 am

I pretty much never use primer, but I do love setting spray!

      • 04/07/2017 / 6:24 pm

That’s fair enough sometimes I am like that too!

    9. 19/07/2017 / 8:44 pm

Try Urban Decay or Morphe setting spray! Theyre great. As for the mascara issue: cover your eyes with your hand. I always do that and ive noticed that sertting spray just keeps me looking from oily or cakey. great for both!

In total agreement with the eyebrow stencils!! They’re impossible to use properly x

    11. 03/08/2017 / 1:04 am

I agree with most of your list here, but its a shame that you haven’t found a lip tint that works well or you. I love the Korean lip tints mostly Peripera’s Ink Moist or Velvet – they have amazing staining power and are super moisturising (I have reviews up on my blog if you’re interested) ! 🙂 Thank you for the post!!!!
