I know, I know, I know, I am a day out. National lipstick day was in fact yesterday but I did wear a lipstick when I went out yesterday so does that count? I thought as I am a makeup blogger, it would be awful of me not to ‘celebrate’ it in some sort of way. I have seen a few other bloggers mention it too, and even the brand MAC were giving our FREE LIPSTICKS all day. Yes FREE!! I only found that out today but I am so upset because if I had known that I would have been on the next bus into to grab as many as I could. Honestly my heart breaks a little bit. Anyway, I decided to share with you what my favourite brand of lipstick is… Which also happens to be MAC. What a coincidence?
To be fair, judging what brand or type of lipstick is your favourite is a pretty hard job because there is just such a big variety out there. For example I love my Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick or my NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, however if we rule liquid lipsticks out of the equation actual lipsticks are harder to judge.
I have tried a fair amount of brands, obviously not all the brands in the world as that would be impossible, however I have my faves and the ones I don’t like so much. I won’t name the bad ones, but for instance I got a lipstick a few months ago that I was really excited to try but after wearing it it made my lips extremely dry to the point that they were starting to crack and bleed. The worst thing was that it was such a pretty colour and the packaging was amazing.
However the lipstick brand of my choice has to be MAC. MAC lipsticks to me really hit the nail on the head with formula, consistency, pigmentation and variation. The have the classic ‘bullet’ packaging which is simplistic but is also iconic. I own three MAC lipsticks and I wish I could own more, in fact all of them… a girl can dream right?! I have Velvet Teddy, Retro and Brave. Velvet Teddy is matte and Retro and Brave are Satins.
The formulas of the lipsticks are very creamy and very hydrating, so you don’t get the issue of your lips feeling dry or that the lipstick has clumped up on your lips and is starting to flake off… EW I KNOW ITS THE WORST FEELING EVER. They don’t feel heavy on your lips though, which some creamy lipsticks can do because they are thick in consistency. The Satin lipsticks give a nice sheen to your lips and when wearing a nude this can make your makeup look really natural – No makeup makeup look kinda thing, yeah? I don’t wear Brave a lot only because pink toned lipsticks can wash me out as I have olivey skin, however Retro is so beautiful and is perfect for autumn if you don’t want to wear a dark berry but want to get on the trend.
But don’t even get me started on Velvet Teddy… My oh my it is literally heaven in a lipstick. If you haven’t got this then I would be very surprised as most people I know own it. This is my got to lipstick when I just want something chic and subtle on my lips and for me you can never go wrong with a matte lipstick. Unfortunately mine is nearing the end of its life so I will have to buy a new one.
MAC lipsticks are not the cheapest though and cost £16.50 per lipstick, which for some people, including me, can be a lot to fork out on just on one lipstick. There is two things though which make the decision easier. If you bring back to a MAC store six empty MAC products that you have used then you do get a free lipstick! And MAC lipsticks are just unbelievable and I feel that they should be a staple in any girls makeup bag, so it is definitely worth that £16.50.
You can find all of MAC’s 197 shades of lipsticks here.
