I don’t think I have ever made a recipe as many times I have this one because it is too simple to say no too. Don’t judge.. I eat these on a weekly basis because they are a perfect pick me up after a bad day, or a good quick and easy pudding. I have been making these for so long that I have no clue what the original recipe was – or where is was from – & I have made my own little twists on it over the many months/years I have been baking this wonderful creation.
So let’s get into this —>
FYI the brownie in the photo did not rise as I think I need to get new SR flour but it still tasted heav.en.ly!
Makes: 1 mug full? | Prep Time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 1½ mins
What you shall need:
- 1 tbsp of butter
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp of cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp of caster sugar
- 2 tbsp of self-raising flour
- Any chocolate you like
- A microwave safe mug
This recipe is SO DEAD EASY that you need to make it right now. Legit drop what you are doing and treat yourself!
Firstly take your tablespoon of butter and melt it in a microwave proof mug. Just make sure your mug can go into the microwave or else you might have a problem in your hands… I just pop it in for a 30 second blast.
I used to add a tablespoon of water at this point, and I do if I remember… But it isn’t essential. If you think you mixture is a little thick at the end before you cook it, then just add a drop or so.
Next add your pinch of salt and the cocoa powder and just give it a quick mix. Mixing it after you add each ingredient just makes sure that it is all mixed well and doesn’t separate when you are cooking it.
Then add the sugar, mix it, and then add the flour. I would recommend adding the flour in one by one so it makes it a little easier to combine each time.
Before cooking it, add whatever toppings or extras you want. This time I went for the really healthy option of marshmallows (NOT) but I have added white chocolate chunks before, or smarties. The limit does not exist (I see you Mean Girls) when it comes to sweet treats!
Put it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. It depends on the watt-age (?) of you microwave so after a minute take it out and see how it looks, if it looks glossy on top it will need a bit longer. My microwave is 800W and takes 1½ minutes. You can see why this recipe is good for a quick warm treat!
This recipe is actually half of what the original recipe was, at least I think, because the original just created a lot of mixture that I couldn’t fully finish each time I made it. This is my take and it is delicious, if I say so myself.
