(Before we start I want to clarify that this hot choc was one of the best hot chocs, and hangover cures out there, as it had about a whole can of whipped cream on top and marshmallows… heavenly or what?? On to the blog…)
OHHHH NoOoOoO…. It is coming up to that time of year when exams are creeping upon students from GCSEs or final uni deadlines so aka it is one of them most stressful times of the year! And TRUST ME I am feeling the pressure. *Thinks of Under Pressure song…* But whilst it is very important to revise as much as your butt can it is as important to make sure you don’t become a little hermit crab that doesn’t have a social life because they stay inside all day doing work. Says myself who is currently (as I am writing this) on my Easter holidays and haven’t been out in two days, apart from to go to the gym, because I have been revising and blogging… Buttt that’s only because I have been catching up on worm I haven’t done because I have been away!!
I would say I have a relatively busy schedule, and up until the end of May when I finish college (#rollonsummer) I have to deal with this accordingly, as I have school, revision a job and my blog. I am a big believer in the perfect work life balance because you might drive yourself insane if you don’t. As I feel like I can compromise both quite well I thought I would write a few tips which you can use if you feel like you struggle.
If you are in school or college or uni you need to remember your friends from there will be in exactly the same position as you. You aren’t the only one going through exam stress, so sometimes it is nice to create a group outing or activity where you can all spend a few hours de-stressing. It is only healthy to have a few hours away from revision and work and you can have fun!
I have some sort of timetable of my week and I mentally plan out my days. For example today, when I am writing this, it’s a Tuesday (a bloody good TV night too) and I started revising at 11:45 ish, had an hours lunch at 1 and then finished revising at 3:30 and now I have started preparing blog posts for the future, and I know at some point tonight I want to go to the gym and I need to wash my hair. That is my mental prep of what I need to do. By writing down, and knowing what I want to accomplish and giving myself time slots, I feel like I can get everything done.
Long term I do the same. I have created a basic revision time-table for the upcoming months, and I have written down everything I want to do, so I can plan my weeks etc… It might seem TOO FORMAL to some people like my brother just wings it, but if you have a busy schedule then you need to manage it FORSUREBABES.
Sometimes, if you have a job, you have to forego revision for it. However in exam period, if you happen to be a student, bosses will allow you to take some weekends off. For example I work Fridays, Saturdays and sometimes Sundays but my boss is so amazing if I want time off. If you are working a lot of shifts, then you need to think to yourself, at what point is it starting to affect my revision?
Finally just let your hair down sometimes because why not?! Have a few drinks (if you are of age), go to the beach, go to the gym, go on a walk… do what you like to do just to distract yourself from work of any sort. It will actually help you when it comes to revision because having a fresh mind makes you remember things more clearly than if you were to *CRAM* stuff into your noggin!
How do you manage your work/life balance??
